Rare Vintage Item!!
Around 1974
Unused Tendo Shogi Pieces!!
It seems these were a treasure of my father, who was active in the in-house shogi tournaments of the former Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (Den-Den Kosha). Ultimately, they were kept carefully without being used. He is offering them to a shogi enthusiast, so I am putting them up for sale.
Although unused, please understand that these are items that have been stored for a long time.
★ Please refrain from price negotiations as these are unused items from that time that are no longer available.
The following is a quote from the internet:
Tendo Shogi pieces from around 1974 by Umeichi are positioned as "pieces with a neat Kaisho (block script) typeface from the period when authentic branded pieces began to emerge in post-war Tendo." Umeichi's real name was Sakuro Umezu, a Tendo piece craftsman born in 1921. The typeface is "Kaisho," which is characterized by being neater and easier to read than the Gyosho (semi-cursive) and Sosho (cursive) styles, making them suitable for actual play and giving the pieces a calm appearance.
They appear to be made of boxwood with lacquer writing and a raised-style finish, with the lines created by yellow lacquer (yellowish lacquer) and a thick raised-style appearance.
Umeichi's Kaisho has a straightforward balance of strokes, with many characters having a centered shape, and tends to have an expression that emphasizes stability and visibility over flashiness, which has been favored by enthusiasts who are oriented towards actual play.
